Ok guys, this is a simple poll. Everyone seems to be on board with changing the rookie draft lottery to only determine the top 2 or 3 picks of the rookie draft, so lets make a decision.
I'm going to allow a week for votes to be submitted. At the end of that period a decision will be made and I will conduct the rookie draft lottery soon after in able to allow everyone as much time to prepare for the next season and make any trades they want to.
Just to clarify, outside of those picks determined by the lottery, the remaining picks will proceed in the reverse order of the final standings. For example, I finished 10th, or 4th last. Therefore, unless one of the teams lower than me is fortunate enough to win one of the top picks, I would pick 4th in the Rookie draft. In short, it works just like the NBA draft.
So, vote away.

Either way its a weighted lotto right? should be. In the NBA all teams in the lottery (from worst - 15th worst) have a shot at the #1 pick; the odds just become slimmer and slimmer. The same goes for every subsequent pick (i.e. if you finished 8th you have a shot at the 6th spot in the draft, just lower odds then the person who finished 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th). Is there any way you can simulate this instead for the rookie draft (and perhaps even use the inverse of this system for the free agent draft)?

Yes it is a weighted lotto with only the bottom 8 teams being given eligibility for the lottery. The drafting order of the top six teams from the regular season are not affected by the lottery.

Honestly, I'm against a lottery in total. I think its pretty hard to tank in fantasy vs in real life. I don't see that having it 2 or 3 makes any difference.
I'll pass on voting unless its a vote away in either direction.

I voted 2 as it matches a similar % to what the NBA has.
NBA has 3 out of 14 or 21.4% of the teams If we have 2 out of 8 that is 25% of the teams
Note that 3 out of 8 gets you 37.5% of the teams determined by lottery. So I base my vote on statistically trying to get it as close to the real NBA as we can.

I voted for three, I feel it would be best for the lower teams & gives An opportunity to display a gm's talent by drafting the right players

I've voted for two as well, for the reasons I've already outlined in other threads. That is....basically exactly what cam2win said.

Ok guys, even if the last two votes are cast, the outcome is that the draft lottery will determine the top 3 picks of the Rookie Draft. Therefore, from pick 4 to 14 the order will be in the reverse of the final standings.
I will now take steps to get the draft lottery conducted as soon as possible, however given that my second child is due any moment, I may obviously be delayed in having it completed.
I also plan to prepare a calendar of key dates for the off-season so that everyone can have some idea of what will be happening in the lead up to next season.

Congrats, Phil! Now you will have an edge on the rest of us, since you'll be awake at all hours. The advantage would have been even greater if this happened during the season.

Just revisiting this thread to see if two seasons on the view remains that the lottery should determine the first two or the first three picks of the rookie draft. I'm of the view that because have only 8 lottery teams peer season that the lottery should determine just the first 2 picks. Cam2win articulated this the best previously. I voted 2 as it matches a similar % to what the NBA has. NBA has 3 out of 14 or 21.4% of the teams If we have 2 out of 8 that is 25% of the teams Note that 3 out of 8 gets you 37.5% of the teams determined by lottery.
