hey guys, do any of you collect, or used to collect NBA cards? I have been on and off collecting for 20+ years and have amassed a decent collection of Chicago Bulls cards. I collect Jordan (450 cards), Pippen (~300) and Rodman (not sure how many) but every single Bulls player is allowed into my collection from any era (last count I had 1300 Bulls cards, but it could be a couple of hundred more by now). If any of you have any cards lying around, and want to send me your Bulls cards I'd be happy to trade for some Jordan doubles, or pay some cash for them. Let me know what you have cheers

Hey sorry can't help with Bulls cards, but have been thinking about starting collecting. Just wondering what you thought were the best brands ior collections to target with current players, or as far back as late 90's?

I think I have some old skybox cards in storage somewhere from the early 90s. I was actually recently thinking about digging them out in taking a look at them. It will take me a few weeks, but whenever I get to it I'll let you know what I've got. Kind of curious myself.

Sorry can't help you magz. Up here in the great white North we collect hockey cards and I've passed my very modest collection from my childhood on to my son.

So Ive gone through my cards recently and spent hours upon hours sorting them. I now have closer to 1700 Bulls cards, 574 of which are Jordan, with another 143 Jordans on their way, ones I know I dont have. Plus there are about another 100 or so other Bulls on their way via trades and sales. This is fun!! Starting to get some Game Used Jersey Cards and Autographs which are always nice. My collecting goal for this year is to hit 2000 Bulls cards. Special thanks to Force for sending me some sweet Bulls cards too! You're a legend! If anyone is keen to see some cardboard nostalgia, check this link out... PHOTO BUCKETI havent scanned any Bulls as yet, but I will in the near future.

I wish I had the money for those high-end boxes, lots of sweet products and cards out there
Nothing beats the 1993-96 Topps Finest though!!

Topps Finest is easily one of the best looking sets for sure. Holds decent value too. There are some insane cards out there these days. I'm watching guys drop hundreds, even thousands of dollars on single cards on the trading forum I frequent. I simply can't afford it and even if I could I don't think I would. Id rather buy boxes and enjoy the gamble of a big hit. As much as I love it, and have done for over 20 years, at the end of the day its just cardboard.

At the end of the day it's just cardboard… that cracked me up I guess because it's true. Still, I think if I had 500 Michael Jordan's and was told it was really just three cents in total value in cardboard, it would still make me sick to throw them away.

Very valuable/expensive cardboard
It's too bad that nowadays base cards mean absolutely nothing now. Even in the good sets.

Its a 2 edged sword to me, the fact base cards are worthless. Its pretty much what I collect (dont get me wrong, I love a good insert card, but base makes up the majority of my collection). It makes them easily accessible for me, but it also means my collection isnt worth much, other than the sheer volume of it (and the Jordans and inserts of course). Its OK, because to me my Bulls cards have no monetary value as I'll never part with them. So basically, its just pretty cardboard in my eyes, regardless of cost

I guess u can say I'm closer to magg's here...I can see the beauty in a card and it not be worth a penny...some of these young players are interesting so I can see myself buying a set or two coming up...

Just got some pretties in the mail today - Have a look at Prizm's - they are really nice cards in hand! WOW!
Unfortunately Panini are killing the hobby with monopoly. Remember the old days of Upper Deck, Fleer, Skybox, Topps etc? All gone... they no longer make NBA cards because the NBA and Panini have an exclusive deal, meaning they have the market cornered and they make about 12 different products a year, and each product has several paralells. Remember, for example the old Upper Deck Collectors Choice cards? You'd get a silver signature card every pack, a gold signature every box - they were special, but it was achievable to actually get the full set of silver sigs (half my CC set is silver sig without even trying). Now days Panini make 7 or so different colour variants of the same card, so you'll get the base card, then a red parallel, a blue, green, yellow, purple.... literally, you end up with a rainbow of the same card. Kinda cool, except when they do it to a dozen different products. All of a sudden your yearly collection goal of one player goes from maybe 10-20 a year (across different products/brands) to 100+ (in just one brand) - its made it unrealistic and almost unacheivable and this era of cards will be looked upon in years time as a dark patch.
Its why Im going back and trying to fill all my Fleer, Skybox, Topps, UD etc and not worry too much about Panini. They should go back to making stickers and leave cards to the professionals. I was always a Fleer boy, but that was purely personal preference. The Fleer Ultra was an awesome set, and from an era when inserts were king.
