Alright guys, getting closer to getting rights on the forums to open up a new league section and invites will follow shortly after. Hopefully in the next couple days.
Also wanted to let everyone know i plan to do an Auction Draft to kick off the league. That way everyone has equal opportunity to build their newly formed roster. That draft should be alot of fun!
As for league size, i'm hoping most of the Keeper League members join. If not i'm confident we can fill the remaining spots with Standard League players or players from the Justice League currently not in 3NC. 14 seems like a good amount of teams and what i'm aiming for. With this format it will be near impossible to find a fair way to increase league size later on.

Ugh, I hate Auction Drafts. A regular snake draft distributes the value of the players much better across the rosters.

In almost all leagues I'd agree with you. However with this format and the long term ramifications that first roster could have for teams, I think its fair every team has an opportunity at every player. That will prevent any disputes or complaints of "wish I had the top pick to take AD".

It sounds good on paper but I've never seen it work out in an actual auction draft, you end up with some grossly unbalanced rosters beyond the first round because other teams drive up the price to ridiculous levels on the better players. Also if a GM can't make the draft for some reason they get completely shafted. A regular snake draft works out because even if you are lucky enough to get AD in the first round you aren't picking again until the 28th pick where as the guy at #14 is getting two top 15 level players.

I will make sure to find a time everyone can make the draft. Many guys will go for absurd prices but at least everyone has a chance to overbid. Teams don't get who they want its their own fault, not a random order selector.

I'm just saying that I've seen it happen every time that I've been in an Auction draft, you end up with some overly strong teams and some overly weak teams and the GMs of those weak teams have bailed. It happened in the Keeper League and the Justice League. It's nearly impossible to find a date and time where you'll have 100% attendance for a draft and with the Auction format there is a much bigger chance of a GM autodrafting getting screwed. Also you are going to end up with a team that has 3 top 20 players on it and a couple of teams with none. With a regular draft everyone has the same chance of landing the top pick and the talent level will be even across the league instead of one team that manages to grab Davis+Harden+Durant.

I get the potential drawbacks. To me the equality of getting players outweighs the risks. Owning 1 and 28, 29 is a huge advantage over owning 14,15 in this format. If some teams stack up 3 top players more power to them.
I'm owning the responsibility of finding a draft time that works for everyone as well. We will have 7 weeks or so to find 3 hours we can all attend. Not worried about that honestly.

More power to them and less to another team and if GMs feel like they can't be competitive they bail. It sounds like a good idea but the Keeper League started off that way and it crippled the unskilled drafting GMs so we had constant turnover the first 4 years of the league. We have good GMs now but some of the teams are still pretty wildly stacked.

i missed the keeper league draft and was dealt a pretty awful hand, need to be there for an auction draft because adjustments have to be made, they are way more un predictable then snake drafts
its all well and good to say we'll make sure everyone gets there, but we've got 14 managers from all different time zones plus even if everyone agreed (which would be rare) i'm sure some people can get called into work when not expected (not me), lose internet for whatever reason or any other personal issue could pop up (personally, my wife is due in October so my availability could change at any time)
personally, i do like the idea of an auction draft for a dynasty league as you control your own destiny but ive always found that if you pre do your rankings and for some reason you have to miss, you'll still be ok with a snake but auction you can be royally stuffed

last year I did an auction draft with Jim in his side league that he had going (PM, you were there, so were you Force, Larry too and a few others). Even though most people were present, one of my mates had his internet drop out momentarily, it auto bidded on a player he wasnt even interested in, and blew a MASSIVE chunk of his money early on. that one tiny glitch for that 2 minutes ruined his entire season. The team he was building suddenly made no sense and he didnt do very well for the rest of the season. If it was a snake draft, it would have been fine - sure he would have ended up wasting one pick, and got a player he might not have wanted but the ramifications it had due to how much money the computer spent for him meant he couldnt buy any more decent players.
The other thing was, the couple of teams that didnt attend the draft and auto drafted the entire thing were killing anyone trying to get a decent player, because the computer seemingly doesnt know when to stop. So most of our money was spent in the first half because we were trying to outbid players who might not have even wanted those particular players.
So my experiences with auction drafts is not a very good one. I dont like the idea. I think the draft in a full dynasty league is CRUCIAL. Get it wrong and the whole thing is doomed from the start.
I would much prefer a snake draft, with a randomized order for selection. If that means I get the 14th pick, so be it. Thats the way the ping pong balls fall.

We can do a snake draft if it makes everyone happy. If we do I'm putting in a rule that anytime someone uses where they drafted as an excuse on the forums, they forfeit a rookie pick to me.
Yes I'm kidding.....sort of...

I agree with cam that an auction draft would be better as I think it is fairer. I agree with people get the bad end for not being there but that is what cam is trying to is get at least most of the teams there. I will probably not be in it though so I doubt my oponion counts.

Sorry I'm late to the party - didn't notice this tread up in the league section, but it's a good place for it. I'm 100% in favor of the auction draft - I really would hate to think that luck is going to determine who gets AD. Yes, auction draft has its fleas (such as the system robo-bidding on players when managers are absent), but I really would hate to think that luck is going to determine whether I get Anthony Davis or Jimmy Butler with my first pick. Sure, getting Klay Thompson instead of Hassan Whiteside is an upgrade in R2, but this upgrade is small in comparison to the gulf that exists between Davis and Butler.
We should really start discussing draft times NOW and get the league set up immediately to reserve the best time. If we are just unable to find a time that works for 10+ of us to draft in person, then I might be in favor of a snake. But I think we can have the best of all worlds if we move quickly.
