Well I joined the league but I don't see any difference between it and the keeper league so I'll probably be leaving shortly

Invites sent to all in the Keeper League. Hope to see everyone join...including you Spurs !!!
I hope to have our own forums set up in the near future. Stay tuned for updates. Once our forum is available i'll post the league rules there (currently on the Yahoo recent messages) and we can start discussion topics around the league.

The whole point of a Dynasty League is your entire roster carries over from year to year. Being only able to protect 10 players makes it a Keeper League. Not interested in another Keeper League.

Ah, i see what you mean and i may not have made that clear Yes we are indeed carrying forward our ENTIRE roster. What my intention with the Free Agency was to add an additional way for player movement to occur. I'm open for debate on this but in my mind think it can help. How it works Teams protect 10 players from the "free agency". The remaining 6 (or 7 with an IL player) become exposed to a "free agency", think of it as an expansion draft. Starting from the top team each team can select 1 unprotected player from another roster or simply "protect" an 11th player. A max of 2 players can be plucked from any team. Each team gets 1 round at this. Once all teams have gone then you carry forward your whole roster with any changes. So at most you'll have 1 or 2 differences from the prior year but almost your whole roster will come with you. By "protecting" 10 it prevents anyone from losing a star. Hope that helps clear it up. Again I'm open to debate on this, however i think this will prevent the bottom teams from feeling like they have no way to improve other than 2 rookie picks, yet the impact to the better teams will be very minimal.

IM thinking about it. I like how you have it set up. Will people be able to trade rookie picks to get another person protected? so could I give you my rookie for an 11th protected keeper this leaving only 5 people that could be taken from my team?

Spurs, I really like that idea a lot! Especially those later rookie picks which may have value to rebuilds. So yah, trading picks to protect another player will be an option

Hey, have a lot of reading to catch up on so I don't know if I'm posting this in the right spot. But I signed into the league so I'm there.
Can you walk me through how that thing with losing a player in your bottom six works please? As I understand it… we have 16 roster spots and all of them are keepers. So as I understand it you're saying someone can trade in let's say their second round rookie pick and use it to take one of the bottom six players away from some other team in the league? ... I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this works… The season ends and we all have 16 players. Then, I guess that means before the rookie draft we all have to somehow declare what 6 players on our team that we are not franchise tag protecting. So let's say in this process my team loses two players (The maximum) means I am now down to 14 keepers. From that point I guess I would have no choice but to keep whatever the two rookies I draft are to achieve my 16 total roster spots. In that scenario would we be able to drop one of our rookies in exchange for picking up a non-kept free-agent? What if for some reason I have traded away both of my rookie pics? Does that mean I have to go into the season with just 14 keepers, and I guess grab a couple guys from the free-agent pool as soon as it becomes available. Or is there going to be some sort of post rookie draft auxiliary free-agent draft round?

UA, good discussion points.
Assuming we agree on the free agency I proposed there is a risk you have less than 16. You are right you keep all 16. My proposal says 10 are untouchable. You can make an 11th untouchable or choose another bottom 6 from another team. Or as spurs suggested trade a pick to protect essentially a 12th. Then whatever players you have left plus rookies become your roster. Opening day you need 16. If a team has less they get to select a player from the non roster players from prior year to fill there roster. With 16 or 17 players from prior year, plus rookie picks plus being able to get a player from another bottom of a roster I don't see that happening often if ever.
Hope that makes sense. I was looking to find a way to encourage a bit more player movement. We lost one player because of this idea so I'm worried its become too much. In theory it encourages some more player movement while allowing teams to protect main assets, like real life

Actually you know, spurs champs idea is on track to be the solution for most of that stuff. It's actually too simple to not work. You simply make the maximum number of players that can be taken off of somebody's roster equal to the number of rookie pics they have. So another words, if you only have one rookie pic then a maximum of one player can be removed from your bottom six. If you have zero rookie pics then zero players can be taken from your bottom six that off-season. And of course the more rookie pics you have the more maximum number of players can be taken from your bottom six. That answers a couple of questions I had up there.

That would make the"optional keep 11th player" unnecessary and you wouldn't even have to deal with that anymore.

I like that solution a lot UA. Plain and simple, lose nobody but get no rookie picks. Plain and simple

Oh wait no, the 11th protected player is the catalyst for the whole thing. Yes, OK, well it's still really works well this way anyway… thinking out loud… say I choose to take somebody's unprotected player. Is that process happen before or after the rookie draft? Assuming it happens before, and assuming none of my players get taken from my team in this process, roster is now 17 players in size. Assume that is OK because rosters get cut down to 16 players at the keeper finalization deadline anyway. Yeah yeah I think that works really well… everybody has the option of protecting and 11th keeper or swapping it out for some buddies unprotected bottom six keepers, if you tie the maximum number of players a team can lose in this process directly to the number of rookie pics they have then you guarantee your cells that everybody will have 16 players going into every new season, no shortages.
