Ok, so we're heading towards the end of the season (fantasy wise) and I feel now is the right time to open up a report as to how you all feel towards my reappointment as commish this season (let's not mistake me as a manager and me as a commish). As I've always said from day 1, this league is about the managers and their say.
My opinion before I list the questions: I feel as if I've done the most I could for such a shortened season. Unfortunately I wasnt able to go out and find players quickly, though bringing back an active and interested PP was the best move we could make as his love for the sport in general brings in good conversation. That being said, I'm very disappointed in having to let go of 3 managers this season (mostly blanks, 360) though the tough decisions had to be made and for the sake of having the most "active" season possible (which we've had mind you), it was imperative to replace them so that each team had a more even opportunity each week instead of teams getting the yearly treatment of the "bye". As a whole, I can't judge my performance as a commish as that'd be impartial, thus this is why I've set this thread up.
Here's the questions listed.
Are you happy with the direction of the league?
How do you feel I have handled the inactivity situation this season?
Are you still happy with the format of the league?
What would you like to see changed next season?
What are your thoughts on the inactivity situation? eg: How to weed out inactivity.
It is time to finally look at a money league (as little as a $20 entry) to get rid of this inactivity problem? Will it get rid of the inactivity problem?
Are you still happy with the forums being in place rather than the message board over at yahoo?
If you have any other input, feel free to voice your opinion. Failure to do so will automatically see me form the opinion that you're fine with everything (that is why it's important to voice your opinion).

Are you happy with the direction of the league?
Yep
How do you feel I have handled the inactivity situation this season?
Well handled even though it is a extra thing for you to do
Are you still happy with the format of the league?
Yep, any issues i would have brought up already.
What would you like to see changed next season?
$$$
What are your thoughts on the inactivity situation? eg: How to weed out inactivity.
Although im keen for a money league, even $20 won't keep people from being inactive if they're out of the running....perhaps have a small prize for 5th place. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th can be prize winners.
Recruit people from other leagues that we are in with good activity records.
It is time to finally look at a money league (as little as a $20 entry) to get rid of this inactivity problem? Will it get rid of the inactivity problem?
Are you still happy with the forums being in place rather than the message board over at yahoo? Its been good this season, but i'll be back on the yahoo wagon if activity dwindles towards the end of the season like it did last season. It's OUR league and people need to be active. If you have any other input, feel free to voice your opinion. Failure to do so will automatically see me form the opinion that you're fine with everything (that is why it's important to voice your opinion).

for the most part yes. I would love to see something new added but I dont know what. I like the idea of moving the lowest 2 teams to D league as it gives them something to play for.
How do you feel I have handled the inactivity situation this season? I dont really like it. It is hard to find replacement managers in the middle of the season though and there is no good solution tho this.
Are you still happy with the format of the league?
yes
What would you like to see changed next season?
Into the D league. it may take a couple years to get going strong but it would give us players for this league as well as the other one (but only for when teams drop) too possibly.
What are your thoughts on the inactivity situation? eg: How to weed out inactivity.
lowest 2 teams go to D league (dont think it would have helpe though this year)
It is time to finally look at a money league (as little as a $20 entry) to get rid of this inactivity problem? Will it get rid of the inactivity problem?
NO!!!. but you want me gone so that probably sounds like a yes to you.

Failure to do so will automatically see me form the opinion that you're fine with everything (that is why it's important to voice your opinion). I would put in the D league. It cant hurt.

another thing may help with inactivity. Have each team write up the weakly match ups. This would hopefully make each team look at them more and we would get different writings each week. I think there is 20 weeks so the 14 teams would do 1 each and we could find replacements for the extra 6 weeks or you could do them. Yes this also means you would have to have me write one.

You'll find not many people will put their hand up to do up a weekly thread.
Also Spurs, in terms of you not being happy with the way I've handled the inactivity situation. How would have you done it without replacement? Lock the teams out like previous seasons? The issue with that is that the teams will end up being "bye" material, and majority of rosters will end up blowing the inactive teams out, there for unbalancing the league from a standpoint of teams earlier in the season being cheated out of the same result because of the fact that they played the same team earlier in the season, though the then inactive team was indeed active.
You can't win it all. I've elimiated the "bye" round and added some activity. There's still inactivity obviously, though it's nowhere near as bad as a fully inactive team. Whilst it sucks that the managers are gone, it's a better result then having the managers locked out and their teams fully inactive.
On to the money league in which you're totally against. You cannot tell me that you can't afford a simple $20? I understand that the american economy sucks, but you have internet correct? you have bills correct? (I assume you live out of home and with either a spouse, friend or yourself). $20 is not a lot of money and if you're as good as you proclaim yourself to be spurs, you should have no problems getting that money back later in the year, correct?
The money league is insurance, and one of the better ways to slowly weed out inactivity. It's going to be an off season debate for sure.

as i said there isnt really a good way to handle it other then find someone to take over which would be hard. some teams played them when they were simi active and other play them when active so it is hard to equal them out completely.
The money league I just dont like. Ive been in them before and they never seem to go how they people think they will. All the leagues i have been in have ended up breaking up within 3 years of me being in them. usually in the first couple years of the league.

I'm not going to answer each question individually, instead I'll just write a little which should cover everything.
Roost, I think you've done a great job. It's been a tough year with the lockout and a rush to start the season. I love this league and it is the only leagues I'm in. I dropped everything else so I could concentrate more on this league as I found I was stretching myself too thin with multiple teams in multiple sports crossing over each other. I like your proactive approach to inactive managers. Instead of waiting around and giving multiple chances you've given the managers in question their warnings and quickly cut them lose if they did not follow through on their end of the deal. It's tough losing guys like Blanks but its nice to see that you've treated every manager equally and there hasn't been favoritism and a little slack given to managers who have been here for a while. This is how I feel it should be for everyone. i know it can be a tough decision some times but I think you've handled it very well.
As far as the league itself and the future of it, I think the format works and we don't need to fix something that isn't broke. I think it's been shown the only real problem is inactivity. As far as the D-league goes, I did give it a yes in your original thread, and it is a good idea, but getting it together and working properly may be tough. Someone said we have enough trouble finding active people for this league so how can we expect there to be active managers in a minor league. I think this is a very valid point. I am for a pay league. I know Spurs has his reservations but I do think if people had money at stake then they will pay more attention and you won't have people dropping out. That being said, I think it has to be a larger amount of money to ensure this. I'm not sure $20 would be enough. Some people may look at that as a small loss. So maybe increasing it to around $50. Another idea is to also reward the winner of the consolation bracket. That way the teams that don't make it to the main playoffs still have something to play for and may eliminate managers from just tanking the season.
Even though I'm not the most active manager on the forums, I do like having it. There's no way we could have a discussion like this on just the Yahoo message board. I'll be honest too, I rarely pay attention to anything posted on the message board. If I want to know something I come here.
I think that's it for now. If i think of anything else I'll post more.

Cheers mate, wasnt expecting positive feedback lol. Yeah I think that pulling the trigger on managers and kept it equal has helped keep the league as active as possible.
I know by me setting rosters for inactive teams it's cut and dry, which is why I set the rosters in advance based on overall season ranking (regardless of injury, form, ect). I think this is the fairest way for me to set the rosters instead of "coaching" a team, which in my opinion would be unfair. Obviously players who are injured and are set to play on the roster still makes the roster "inactive", though it's a hit or miss thing.

Roost I think you've done a good job mate.
I think we've got a solid group of managers, and the format has worked well for years on end, so lets not get rid of a good thing. As for the inactivity thing, it has worked well, though I'm thankful yahoo finally gave the Commish the powers to transfer rosters (this wasn't possible last season) as it means any transfers can happen much quicker.
These forums are still the best location for chatter, as we have greater flexibility than what Yahoo provides us with. The best thing is that people can create their little signatures etc, which really adds to the character of the league. No such option for this on yahoo.
As for the money league, i think i've said in the past i'd be ok with a $20 entry fee but anything more and I'd be hesitant to participate. I just can't justify spending too much money on something like this..... I enjoy this league because of the people in it, not because of the money, and the risk that is run is that some long-term managers could be lost if money is put out there, meaning you might have more active managers, but you lose quality managers.
As for changes to next season, i'm not sure i can suggest any. It would just feel wrong to change the format that has worked so well for this league over the years. What year are we in anyway .....7 or 8?

Only time will tell.
