i'm from the central coast, about an hour and half north of sydney, whys that ? Just wanting to know if someone could show me around or advise of the popular hot spots in Sydney, things to do, places to see. Will be there from 27 - 2 January (Cruise departs Sydney on 2nd)... CAN'T FRIGGIN BELIEVE ACCOMMODATION for Sydney during the holiday period is some $AUD600 for 7 nights for a very budget backpacker. Talk about price hikes for the popular season!

Sydney is expensive all the time
You miss Australia Day by one day which is bogan central so that's a bonus
What are you into ? Sydney has its standard sight seeing stuff ( harbour bridge, Oprah house, centre point tower etc ) decent night life, give the cross a miss tho unless you are with a few other guys, still so many dick heads, the club prices in Sydney are pretty expensive
The casino is alright but expensive for drinks and stuff, public transport is ok these days

Yeah avoiding Australia Day (in public) in general is the best advice I can give anyone willing to come to Australia. Get away from the bogan racist (fuck off we're full) idiots as much as you can. Too many wankers in Australia.
You made it to the Gold Coast last time you were here though right Pride? If so you should be OK in Sydney, the Gold Coast is the biggest "aussie dickhead" city of them all.

Sydney is VERY expensive at that time. I paid $AUD$500 for 7 nights at a very budget backpacker even although I am staying 6 nights. Glad I miss Aussie day. Usually bogans (abos???) are the racist ones right? I'm into everything. Just want to "experience Sydney" You have to pay to get into clubs? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ? Yeah Roosts, made it alive in GC but only went there for the AFL game so I didn't venture out. Main reason for being in Sydney is that my cruise departs Sydney 2nd so decided to get there a bit early to check Sydney out (which potentially could be my future home) as it's tough to make a living in NZ!!!!!

not really the abos, australia day more brings out the young white aussies who hate the lebs, asians etc that have legitimately found home i our country, don't get me wrong, i love australia day, but i don't do any public events, just a barbeque and drinks with friends, we have to many tools
some clubs you will have to pay, especially at the cross, check out darling harbour, some nice restraunts and bars on the water there
are you by yourself ? with a missus ? with mates ?

The purpose of my trip is going on a cruise with my ex - departing Sydney 2 January 2013 for 10 days. I decided to arive on 27th to give me just under a week to sightsee. My ex meanwhile will be on a boat somewhere with her mates to celebrate the New Year.
Don't get me wrong we're still friends but yeah...hope to rekindle something on the cruise, but can't see happening.
Are there snakes in Sydney?

snakes ? there would be but you'll be hard pressed to find any unless you went the outer skirts of sydney
so you're here for new years ? if you're into fireworks, the harbour bridge usually has a pretty awesome display for new years, some people think its lame but i think its a pretty awesome spectacle
sydney doesn't have that much to do, its night life is pretty good, casino is alright, has some sightseeing opportunities
during the day its full of business people, during the nights its full of drunk young people

Sydney definitely hasn't cornered the market on racist idiot Australians. The stuff I've seen in the media of late about my dear ol' Melbourne has made me cringe.
