Remember this is fantasy we are talking about. He averages less than 1 steal a game and basically nothing on blocks. He is sure no Tony Allen, Kawhi Leonard or many other great defenders. Those are "very good" defenders. Though like I said his D is solid and he is still learning the NBA game. He is young and playing with Miami, so he still has a chance.

You want a complete list of sure-fire breakouts amongst the rookies and first-year players? I have it. Here you go: Nikola Jokic, Trey Lyles, Thon Maker, Wade Baldwin, Caris Levert, Norman Powell, Tyus Jones, and Chieck Diallo. If you don't see a name on that list, it means they will be mediocre at best.

I like Jokic there. I like how he just took the starting job away from everybody else in Den. I'm guessing you picked him off the free-agent list last season? He would probably easily be a top 8 best keeper on most any franchise in our league.

Trey Lyles looked great in summer league. He could make a big jump this year. Jokic is a nice player too.

Lyles did look good and i like his game but he lacks in defensive cats and i cant see how he's going to get enough minutes to become a fantasy factor unless he leaves utah or becomes the clear sixth man. Hes stuck behind favors and gobert, and competing for touches in the second unit with Joe Johnson, Exum, Diaw, and burks. So although i like the look of him as a player, i think it'll be hard for him to break out on such a deep Jazz roster.

Yep PM24 that may be the case. Being on the right team is huge. I think he will be getting 20-24 minutes a game next season. If he balls hard in the preseason then he may get more minutes.

Yeah you're probably right there clutch, but for those 20-24 mins I reckon you'd get maybe 9ptss ,4-5rebs, 1 3ptm, 45%fg, 70-75% ft, 1 ast and maybe 1 combined blk/stl. That's ok, but he needs to contribute defensively or he's a less efficient david lee.

The Jazz have the best D in the league and they just added GeoHill to that mix, so Favors will start but head to the bench early and come in when Gobert goes out. Favors and Gobert will finish the game together but there is 96 minutes there to split 3 ways and Favors averages around 30-32 and Gobert played ~31 last year so that leaves about 32 minutes for Lyles if he isn't getting beat like a drum on the floor. They need his spacing because Favors only has range to the elbow which shrinks the floor for Hayward to operate.

Was it you that traded him? or who was it? If there was a sad face emoji I would put it here. Yep, I am the idiot. Don't bother asking what I got... At the time I was giving up the far better player (Joffrey Lauvergne was averaging a double-double at that moment), and Jokic wasn't even in the rotation.
This is one of those hindsight moves that had an unexpected outcome. In fairness, I really was after Ben McLemore in the deal and Jokic was a throw-in. Had I cut Jokic immediately, I don't think anyone would have picked him up. Lucky for me, Lauvergne had a minor injury shortly thereafter and missed a little time, so Jokic had an opportunity to shine. I actually needed to get lucky multiple times to have this outcome.

I remember that timeframe. I have Jokic in the KL and was wondering if I should hold onto him or not. Only reason why I did was I saw so much promise in him when he did get the time. I am now very glad that I hung onto him there as he was a great young pickup.

DireWolves don't forget to add in Boris Diaw into the minutes category. They did not bring him in to play zero minutes and sit on the bench. Even Whithey may eat into those 96 minutes. Unless Lyles is playing like a boss he will be in the mid 20's.

Unless Lyles is playing like a boss he will be in the mid 20's. True i did forget Diaw, but again he isn't the shooter that he used to be. I like Withey but when Favors and Gobert were healthy, Withey rode the pine. The minutes are there IF Lyles can play well and while he shot the ball well from 3 in summer league he only shot 37.5% overall which is brutal for a big. I think he'll be a good offensive player, maybe not this year but in another year or two.
