I suppose it's time to get this thread started again. It is what it is, A place where managers from both 3nc leagues can come and talk about basketball both real and fantasy. All views and prognostications are welcome. And as always please no wagering.
Here are some random thoughts I will have on the upcoming season.
I happened to have yesterday's Cleveland preseason game on when Tristan Thompson decided to go all VJ Day and land a kiss on the sideline reporter in a post game interview. I had to rewind the dvr A couple times two understand if I saw what I really saw. What a dumbass.
With NFL football under attack from several angles, baseball with its usual share of issues, you would think that basketball players would be smart enough to keep their mouth shut so as not to say something that will embarrass the game. Nope. Danny Green recently went to Germany for a preseason game and promptly did something dumb at the Holocaust Museum. Paul George recently said something dumb on Twitter about some current issue I don't even remember. Somebody recorded Danny ferry saying something dumb. Maybe I'm just grouchy because I am stuck in bed with the flu, just seems like nba as a chance to separate itself from the other leagues but squanders it by saying and doing dumb things.
A lot of changes happening over in the Eastern conference.
I believe this will be Chicago's year to represent in the finals. As a Spurs fan it would be great to add the Chicago Bulls to our championship hit list. I really don't see Cleveland solving Chicago's defense in their first full season together.
Indiana might be lottery bound. They just lost so much with Lance and George not being there. I think they will struggle to score 90 points per game.
I don't think the New York Knicks will make the playoffs either.
I am doubtful Detroit will make the playoffs despite all the talent they seem to have. It's just not a very good mesh of pieces, it will take svg more than one season to untangle it.
Washington is definitely in.
Toronto is definitely in.
The next step for Charlotte will be to finish with the sixth seed or better. Hard to feel good about yourself if you are running into Chicago or Cleveland every year in the first round. It will be fascinating to see what Lance Stephenson does in both real and fantasy. He signed a contract that puts him in the position of having to consistently provide production for the next two seasons so you know he's probably going to play his guts off. I don't know who has him in either of our leagues, but good for those guys. Guys in contract years always make for the best fantasy players.
Brooklyn somehow wiggled out of having Jason Kidd for a head coach. Poor Milwaukee. Now they get tricked into taking other peoples crappy coaches.
Atlanta and Orlando are dark horses to get an eighth seed. There's a number of interesting fantasy players on both of those rosters.
And I don't see Miami making the playoffs.
In the Western Conference...
I think San Antonio will be in the finals again. They brought back everybody from last season and for once most of the teams in the West do not appear to have gotten better over the off-season. The East made a lot more progress with their teams though in fairness I suppose they did have A lot more room for improvement.
As for the championship I can't tell you how much it meant to the city. Losing a championship is awful for a city, I had no idea. This town was crushed after they lost in 13. I don't think the sun came out in months after that loss. And the sun is always out in San Antonio. Winning the title this year was the best feeling since 99. The Spurs wanted the heat in the worst way this season. Miami had no idea what they were walking into. Dingdong the witch is dead.
The Dallas versus Houston rivalry should be fun as usual. The Rockets got Dwight Howard away from Dallas last season, got them back by getting Parsons. I think Dallas got the better end of that.
Okc I think will finish with a 4 or 5 seed.
Conventional wisdom probably says the clippers are the new 2 seed in the west, but I'm going to go with a bit of a sleeper and say Memphis Will have that spot. Except for San Antonio I don't see anybody else in the west that can take the grizzlies down in seven games. All of their pieces are in place, I feel like they are going to have a really good season.
There are only a couple teams in the West that I think have no chance of making the playoffs. Sacramento and the Lakers.
Nash is just so done. Name recognition is the only reason he is still penciled in as a starter. The Lakers have been declining for years and I think they are still two years away from being two years away.
Sacramento is a few interesting pieces and may actually make the playoffs next year. Probably not though.
Man there are like 13 teams fighting for eight spots in the west. I will go with Denver as a surprise to make the playoffs this season. As a team they have about the right amount of experience now, and for once most of the team is healthy, or healthyish.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Golden State will miss the playoffs. It's hard to believe Steve kerr Will be able to squeeze as much blood out of that stone as Mark Jackson did.
On the final day of the season I think it will come down to Phoenix and New Orleans fighting for that 8 spot.
Oh add Minnesota to the list of teams that will not make the playoffs. That's going to take a couple years but they might be kind of fun to watch out of the gate.
Hmm I think I might have named more than 8 playoff teams up there but , I don't know, i'm sick give me a break.
For fantasy purposes...
An interesting discussion going around is who's stats will suffer more? Love or Kiree? Neither?
Uhh that's all I got for now. I'm exhausted.
Comment done whatever you want or bring up your own topics. Good luck everybody, glad to get the season started again.
