Fairly obvious his numbers would drop having watching Bosh play his role with the Heat. Even more assured when you have Irving running the point and have come from 1st option from the Wolves dire situation.
Guy just isn't getting any shots at all - sure his defense is rubbish - but the cavs are doing a terrible job at putting him in positions to succeed. It is a big adjustment which will come with time, but Blatt needs to stop the cheap talk of getting Love more shots, and actually start calling plays for him (we have seen barely any pick n roll action between lebron/irving - love which is just mind numbing.)

How about james harden?! The guy deserved all the criticism he got regarding his brain farts on D. But wow what a turn around this early into the season, he been 'great' - that feels really weird to say. Added the offensive load he continues to carry and the rockets reasonable start and he will be up in MVP convos this year. Interested to see how his d intensity holds up as the season progresses- a tough act considering his usage.

I do remember that ..someone ( before the season started said that Love would struggle )....man I can't remember who that was.....hummmm... You're REALLY going to a) declare a near 17/10 per a "struggle"?... and b) they've played 12 games. Hardly started.

Agreed. A Kyrie/LeBron PnR with Love on the kick-out would insanely hard to defend. Might even say impossible.

So Roost, you geeked over Rondo? What do you do when Chandler goes down, call Okafor?

Just to make it official, Mike Malone in Sacramento was the first head coach fired this season. Perhaps paving the way for Mark Jackson?

Fairly geeked, he's going to help us a hell of a lot defensively. Instantly becomes our second best rebounder too. But this move improves our perimeter D ten fold. Not sure how Monta and Rondo will work though. Both ball dominant guards.
We suck in the backup big department though. Apparently we're going for JO but he too is injury prone. Would like to see us move Felton for a big.

Memphis seems to be shopping kkoufos. seems like he could fill in what they lost with Brandon right leaving, but taller I think.

I think Smith is more then capable of filing in for a backup big.

Rajon Rondo has been my favourite non-Maverick in the league for a loooong time. Beyond stoked that he's now putting on the blue and white ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) As roost has noted, gonna be a boon for our perimeter defense. Rondo's got the length to cover 2 guards as well as 1s, and pick and roll coverage should be much more airtight at the point of attack than with pudgy little Jameer. His off the ball defense is a worry though - even today he spaced out and conceded open shots and rebounds early on, although he seemed to tighten that up as the game went along. The rebounding is going to be huge as Dallas is the 2nd worst defensive rebounding team in the league. The spacing is going to get reaaally dicey though - I think that's more concerning to me than the Monta/Rondo thing. Rondo's played with a high usage perimeter iso scorer before in Pierce, and Monta's had some of his most efficient seasons playing off a ball dominant PG in Baron Davis. All in all, sad to see Wright go but I think the Mavs had to make the trade. They've shown that they can find guys like Wright for cheap and develop them. Harder to find a talent like Rondo.

Yeah spacing is going to be an issue early on. We looked quite dodgy today (regardless of the fact we're a new team now, with Rondo taking over) and the fact that Dirk is not playing down on the block much (instead he's shooting transition jumpers) is frustrating as hell. Too many 3's, not enough high % shots especially from Dirk who is looking timid offensively. I'd like to see him shooting more 15-20 foot jumpers than settling for transition 3's. Him and Harris, far too many transition 3's this season. Some really bad shots at times.
I am concerned with the Rondo sag off defense teams execute as well. We don't have any legitimate 3 point gunners. For some reason we're using Parsons in that role, he's simply not a sharp shooter. I can see more zone being used like it was today now that Rondo is here, we were lucky Ellis saved us.
Not sure I'd consider us a true contender, not with our crappy depth behind Tyson. Rebounding is still a huge problem (evidence of today's game, taking nothing away from the San Antonio scrubs) but our rebounding was atrocious as always and losing Wright won't have an effect there. I'd actually welcome DeJaun Blair back, someone that can rebound the basketball when Chandler is off the floor. Greg Smith is rubbish, Charlie V is vomit worthy and Richard Jefferson is a nightmare.
We need some rebounding, Tyson will break down if he continues to play big minutes.

Dirk and Carlisle have said they want to get Dirk fewer midpost touches because of the wear and tear on his body, and only really go to it in crunchtime or "got-to-have-it" type situations so it's by design I think. Dirk scuffling from 3 is a bit frustrating though. They were running a lot of pin downs for Dirk to hit open mid rangers which is money in the bank, but I feel like those have dried up a bit the last 2 or 3 games. Absolutely must get Dirk in a rhythm again to give us some more spacing and punish teams for sagging on Ellis drives.
Loved Carlisle putting Rondo in the high post to beat the zone in the second half, with his passing ability I think they can overcome the lack of shooting against zones.
The sneaky secret of this Mavs team is that we just don't have a lot of shooting. Rondo is a non shooter, Monta has started hot but I don't know how much is legit improvement and how much of it is just a hot streak. Parsons is like you say not a sharp shooter. Dirk has been below average. Devin has actually been really good this year though, shooting 40% from 3 and I think that's legit improvement - apparently he's been lights out in practice all year as well.
We need a backup wing and big man, with not much in the way of trade assets. Looks like we're gonna have to make do with a Jermaine O'Neal/Emeka Okafor type (bleh). We can't trade for Dejuan Blair because he was a sign and trade so he needs to be either cut or traded somewhere else first.
At the end of the day though, I could legitimately see all 8 West playoff teams (I'm presumptively counting OKC as a playoff team) winning the conference - such a loaded conference, it's all gonna come down to injuries and matchups. Dallas has thrown their hat in the ring, and while they can't be considered a favourite, it's really all you can ask for in this conference.

Reggie Jackson should be good for the Knicks, and Shump is a good fit for the Cavs. Not sure about JR Smith though. I think Waiters will be fine for the rest of the season with OKC but may chafe this summer.

Reggie Jackson apparently isnt going anywhere... so the Thunder get Waiters for basically nothing (and keep Jackson), the Knicks give up JR and Shump to clear some salary, and the Cavs get JR and Shump. Thunder win this round for sure!
